Joey is a black-and-tan dappled miniature longhaired dachshund, born on October 10, 2010. Lark is a chocolate-cream miniature longhaired dachshund, born on November 29, 2012. They like to go to the radio station with me when I do my show Mouthful, Smart Talk About Food, Wine, & Farming and here you see them, moments before the show goes live, waiting for the treat they also get so they’ll settle down while I conduct my interviews.
Joey came to Sonoma County by way of Springfield, Missouri, and Berkeley. His owner died in October, 2009, and her daughter drove to Springfield to pick him and his partner, Emma, a 1 ½ year old dachsie, a couple of month’s after her mother’s death. I discovered him on a rescue web site in late January, 2010, and after a brief get together, I adopted him, my first dog as an adult. It wasn’t long before I realized he wanted a mate–when I mentioned Emma’s name, his ears went up and he began looking for her–and so I began the search for another rescue. They don’t come along very often and, when they do, they are quickly adopted. I ended up, through a series of coincidences, getting my first puppy, Lark. It was love at first lick and Joey has been giving her daily tongue baths ever since.
The picture below was taken on their first day together, February 14, 2013. They have been sweethearts ever since.
