Mary Jarvis, an artist of remarkable vision, power and precision, will be featured at Spinster Sisters (401 South A St., Santa Rosa) in June and July, with an artist reception on June 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. Jarvis’s current work explores the natural patterns found in wood.
“As a wood enthusiast, I choose to preserve the memory of tree ring designs by documenting as many of their portraits as I can in luminous oil paint on canvas,” she says of her current exploration of the beautiful patterns and shapes of wood grain. Some of the paintings are on the small size, others are enormous. All invite long viewing, lingering over the patterns themselves and how Mary has transformed them using color, size, and an unparalleled technique.
If you can’t stop by the reception, the art will be on view through the end of July. Spinster Sisters serves breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dinner is offered Tuesday through Thursday from 5 to 9 and from 5 to 10 on Friday and Saturday. Enjoy brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Happy Hour is from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
